In time, I’ve begun to grow tired of perfectly polished Instagrams. On such accounts, you will see every picture with crisp, clear detail, items in perfect order. This leaves me at a pause much of the time now because I realize that the photo was most likely staged. When I look at my favorite Instagram accounts, I see that they are not this, but something completely different, in fact, they are actually imperfect.
I’m starting to find inspiration in imperfect things now. For example, my home Detroit and this mural that I snapped the other day has become a huge source of inspiration for me now that I’m away much of the time. Where I’m from holds a lot of weight for me, but I’m also intrigued by many people’s Instagram photos. I’ve always been a visual person (hence why I take some many photos for this blog) and I love looking at art, especially when it’s photographic.
In 2016, I want to stop focusing on perfection. In part, this means that I want to stop being so hard on myself. Usually, I push myself too much when I have already done enough. My vision for this blog is to embrace the little, normal moments of life. This is why I always ask the girls I interview “If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?” Because when I think of myself at the mere age of 14 years-old, I can think of a whole slew of things to tell that girl. I could tell her that she would have a pretty kick ass blog someday, that she shouldn’t date that one guy, or that she should take more chances. I just love this question because it starts a conversation and it’s relatable for everyone (and it’s not about fashion, or blogging, or magazine covers; it’s straight up, real world stuff).
I’m a pretty typical girl. I mean, just today, I went to the outlet mall, drank some tea, and ate at Buffalo Wild Wings. Can you get much more typical? Just because I blog and someone may look up to me like I’m some perfect person doesn’t mean I am. Same goes for celebrities.
So, lastly, let’s all embrace imperfection in 2016. Will you join me?
