Well, I decided to do a truly unorthodox interview this week. That’s right: I interviewed a boy, specifically my boyfriend, Brandon. It’s something I’ve been thinking about doing for quite some time now. He, like many guys, has a different notion of blogging than us girls do because, well, he dates a blogger!
So, what’s it truly like to date a blogger?
“Well, I know from firsthand experience the lifestyle that is dating a fashion blogger. When I first started to date Jillian I thought to myself: oh, that’s cool and unique she has a blog and didn’t really think too much more of it. After a few months of dating and seeing how much time and effort she invested into it, I wanted to help her. The blogging lifestyle isn’t just her’s, it’s mine too now and I love every second of it. From driving around to find the perfect location for a photo, to being told that my photos look awful and I need to do it again: I have become a blogger as much as Jillian has over the past year I’ve been dating her.
My progression into becoming a blogger’s boyfriend definitely wasn’t a quick and painless one. When I started to date Jillian I didn’t really have much of an idea how to use a proper camera, let alone use the camera on my old iPhone. That changed really quickly. Because I wanted to support Jillian any way I could, I learned how to use a camera properly, how to angle my photos, all of the crap about lighting and how natural light is so much better than artificial light. After I learned to take better photos, I needed to open up my schedule to actually taking the photos. When I would rather be laying inside on a cold winter’s day, I’m instead out taking photos. Jillian always used to tell me that I didn’t have to go and take these photos for her, but in order to be the best boyfriend possible, I wanted to. After a while, I became pretty good at it and started taking pictures on my own for fun.
Taking photos isn’t my only job as a blogger’s boyfriend. In my personal opinion, my most important job is being a source of moral support. Blogging, like everything, comes with its highs and lows and I need to be there for Jillian through all of that. When she has a great idea, I give her space so she can work unobstructed. When she feels unmotivated, I help her to realize that her goals are always in reach and that if she pushed just a little harder she will be that much closer to achieving them. And when Jillian feels down and out, I’m there to help her get back up and help in any way possible.
Being a blogger’s boyfriend is no easy task, but I love it, I love Jillian, and I have become as much of a blogger as Jillian has!“
