I have a new analogy: I want to be a unicorn in a flock of ponies. Quote me on that. There are so many things that have influenced my creativity these past few months. This new environment has been a scary adjustment a lot of the time, but I cannot deny that it has sparked something in me. I like looking at the atypical, unique traits that myself and other’s possess. It makes people interesting.
That’s the whole reason I started the interview section of my blog. I’m tired of talking about me, I want to talk about you, us… even though this is still a fashion blog. I want it to be an evolution of the way we see fashion. It’s not about trends, it’s about expressing what you love, what makes you different. I want every girl to know they are beautiful and disregard what the modeling agencies, fashion industry, and magazine covers say.
So, for today, I want to talk about standing out. In a good way, ha, don’t worry, this isn’t about that time you “stood out” by spilling all the contents of your water bottle all over yourself at the gym… Story of my life.
This is about the good standing out! One way I love to stand out is the way I dress, which honestly, I haven’t been putting a lot of effort into lately. But! I’m really trying to start dressing nicely again, instead of wearing pajama bottoms to class (guilty).
As a result of my new goal, the other day, I threw on this funky little outfit. The orchid American Apparel leggings are such a statement and I haven’t worn them in forever, so I had to. I paired it with a white Forever 21 sweater that I bought not too long ago because it is getting way, way too cold! And then, I threw on the newest addition to my small jewelry collection: a Kendra Scott necklace. If you like color, that’s where you will find it. It’s a rainbow of choices in that store. I went with the ivory though because I tend to be minimalistic with jewelry especially.
I really love this outfit, because I think it is the perfect combo of shock value and professionalism. I try to express myself that way. I like wearing fun outfits with a touch of chic and minimalistic vibes.
It’s also important to me to mix it up while also staying true to myself. I like trying different styles. It’s like playing dress up! In fact, new things, in general, are always fun. I can’t wait to be done with the semester so I can go home and explore places, shops, restaurants I’ve never been before. I have a real fondness for my home of Detroit now that I’ve been away from it for a while. So, one of these days, you’ll get a blog post jammed packed with photos of Brandon and I exploring the city.
So, just remember:
